How do I know I'm purchasing a new versus a used HPS lamp?

What should I do if my new lamp has a broken shard of glass that rolls around inside the jacket (bulb)? This is fairly common because all of our lamps are vacuum lamps, meaning that vacuum pumps are used to attain the desired pressure inside the lamp. During production, broken glass circulates through the pumps and is blown into the lamp. This is not cause for concern unless you can actually see that a part of the lamp is broken inside and that is where the glass came from.
